SYLVAIN MONSOREAU

PRE-ISL
Sylvain Monsoreau was born in Saint-Cyr-l'École in 1981 and started out his career in FC Sochaux 1999. In his six seasons with the club he impressed both as a central defender as well as a left back. Because of his performances he earned himself a transfer to Lyon in 2005, with whom he won Ligue 1 in his first and only season.
AS Monaco signed Monsoreau in 2006 where he played in a star-studded team alongside players such as Yaya Toure, Jeremy Menez, and Jan Koller. For two seasons he played with the southern France club and played 56 games and scored 2 goals. In 2008 St-Étienne signed Monsoreau and he stayed with the club until 2012. During 2012-13 he played for Troyed, but never actually played a single game.
ISL
During the entire 2013-14 season Sylvain Monsoreau was without a club and many believed the former Lyon-player had retired. In August 2014 it was however announced that Monsoreau was a part of the Inaugural International Draft and on August 21 Atletico de Kolkata picked Monsoreau as their fifth pick in the draft.
For Monsoreau the transfer was a chance to prove that he still had a couple of years left as a professional football player. "I know that in France, at age 33, it's old, but I can still play a few seasons. I have the urge. I can prove that I still can play on a high level and when the winter transfer window starts, I have a reference. And it can also open up opportunities to play in other Asian Championships."
It was believed that Sylvain Monsoreau would become a defensive leader in the Kolkata-team, but as the season started Josemi and Arnab Mondal was chosen in favor of Monsoreau as central defenders. The duo played very well together, which reduced the Frenchman's chances for playing time considerably.
As the season ended, Monsoreau had just got to make two brief appearances - with a total of 16 minutes of playing time. Undeniably a major disappointment.
POST-ISL
After the end of the first ISL-season Monsoreau once again became a free agent and has since not found a new club adress.
