Luis García
Interview ~ Goal.com 2014/09/03
Luis Garcia is excited by the prospect of competing in the inaugural Indian
Super League (ISL). Signed as Atletico de Kolkata's marquee player, the
Spaniard welcomes the new experience but stresses that winning the
competition is the main goal.
Luis García: Because of the investment that has been made in the team, the
first objective is winning the title. It’s the first time that this Super League
is created and the aim is to reach the final and be the first to conquer it.
Having recently retired, Garcia claims he was keen on a short-term
commitment in order to be able to spend time with his family as well
stating:
Luis García: A few months ago I had decided to retire because I missed the family and being at home. It was important for me not to be away from home too long. I’m eager and excited to start a new and different experience.
The 36 year-old is impressed by the quality of players the league has roped in and is optimistic that the tournament will garner much attention and develop a good fan base.
Luis García: They have brought world-class players to give the ISL more grandeur. A draft of the best of India has been made and they want the competition to grow and be a showcase to the world. This is country of cricket and they want football to attract many fans.
