KINGSHUK DEBNATH

PRE-ISL
Born on May 8, 1985, this highly experienced stopper back started his football journey in the local Srirampur league at the age of 15. After playing for Aryans and Wari in the Kolkata league, he was picked up by Chirag United in 2008. The John Terry fan left a salaried job at South Eastern Railway to join Mohun Bagan as a professional player in 2010.
His strenghts are often said to be his sense of simplicity. In 2012 he moved to Kolkata-side Mohammedan but returned once again to Mohun Bagan in 2013. During his second stint with Mohun Bagan, he became a key player and during 2013/14 Kingshuk started 20 out of 24 matches.

ISL
On July 3, 2014 Kingshuk was reported as a Mohun Bagan player for the upcoming I-League season, but shortly afterwards it was confirmed that Debanth was loaned out to participate in the Indian Super League. During the draft on July 23, 2014 Debnath was selected for Atletico de Kolkata, mainly because he had played alongside with assistant coach José Barreto during his time in Mohun Bagan.
Already during Atletico de Kolkata's pre-season in Spain, it was clear that Antonio Lopez Habas wanted to play Kingshuk as a right-back instead of his more natural central defender position. "We are shuffled by the coach. It is not an issue as we can play in whichever position it is needed", tells Debnath.
During the four preliminary rounds of the league, Kingshuk had to settle for the bench in favor of Denzil Franco. Debnaths debut finally came against the Kerala Blasters on October 26 as Denzil Franco had been ruled out for the rest of the season due to an injury. In his second game, he caused a penalty in the last minute of the match against Chennaiyin FC and the match ended 1-1 thus.
After not impressed much during his first three matches, he was dropped from the squad during the matches against Chennaiyin and NorthEast United on November 14 and 18. After this brief rejection, Kingshuk returned to the first team and kept his right-back spot during all remaining league games and playoff games.
POST-ISL
After the ISL-season ended, Kingshuk Debnath returned to Mohun Bagan.
